Area Catholics honor native Saint

July 13, 2014

Morning News-Lisa Lete Father Jose Gonzalez offers Holy Communion to Catholic faithful who gathered for an outside mass and Feast Day Celebration at Saint Kateri Tekawitha Catholic Church in Fort Hall on Sunday.

Worshipers recited The Lord's Prayer out loud in at least three different languages as them gathered in at the Saint Kateri (Tekawitha) Catholic Church in Fort Hall on Sunday for a Feast Day Celebration. The event was in honor of the church's namesake, one of the few Native Americans to be declared a saint by the Catholic Church.
The event drew people of all races and religions from throughout the region.
"It does not matter what language we speak or where we come from - we gather here to magnify God," Father Gonzalez told the congregation. "Our faith requires a mission to the Lord's will, whether it conflicts with 'our' will or not. We place God before all else; that's why we are here."
