Alton James Reay

Surrounded by loving family members, Alton James Reay, formerly of Blackfoot, passed away on Jan. 20, 2013, at Providence St Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. He will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Alton was born on July 26, 1942, in Pocatello to George Dryden and Jeannette N. Reay. He attended schools in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School in 1960. He attended the University of Idaho and Idaho State University, majoring in Chemistry and Education, before making a decision to enter the Southeast Idaho Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committeeâ€™s Inside Wireman School in 1965. He received his certification as an Inside Wireman in 1970, and was certified in Idaho, Utah, Oregon, and Washington. He was a member and officer of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) L.U. #449 in Pocatello and a member of IBEW L.U. #46 in Kent, Wash.
He retired from King County Parks and Recreation in Renton, Wash., in 2008. He loved being an electrician and never grew tired of it.
Alton was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #33 in Blackfoot where he served as Worshipful Master, as well as an advisor to the Blackfoot Chapter of DeMolay. He enjoyed all facets of the fraternity of Freemasonry.
Alton married Mary Lou Chapman on May 24, 1975. They lived in both Blackfoot and Pocatello prior to moving to Washington State in 1980.
Alton is survived by his wife, Mary of Olympia, Wash., and children: Patrick Reay (Jen) of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; Michael Reay (Marilyn) of Olympia, Wash.; Chuck Reay (Michelle) of Blackfoot; Randy Reay (Kathy) of Puyallup, Wash.; Karen Packer (Eric) of Klawock, Alaska; 12 grandchildren; and, sister, Patricia Bowman (Verlin) of Blackfoot.
Alton was preceded in death by his father, George Dryden Reay; mother, Jeannette Noyes Reay; brother, George Dryden Reay, Jr.; grandfather, George E. Reay; grandmother, Minnie Reay; grandfather Herman Noyes; and, grandmother, Anna Noyes.
Cremation and burial will take place in Lacey, Wash. A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on March 16, 2013.
