Alta Deawn Herbst, 85

Alta Deawn Herbst, 85, of Groveland, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Deawn was born Jan. 1, 1929 in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Byron and Mildred Matilda Samuelson Jackman.  She attended Rose Elementary School and Moreland High School.  She is a lifetime Blackfoot resident.
On Feb. 26, 1946 she married Glenn William Herbst in Blackfoot.  Their marriage was further solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Aug. 12, 1978.  Glenn preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1998.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in various callings, including, Primary worker, librarian and temple worker.
Deawn worked as a checker at Albertson’s for over 30 years but she decided to go to work for Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice where she worked alongside her daughter.  They retired together when Deawn was 83.
She enjoyed tole painting, ceramics, crocheting, oil painting, reading and the family tradition of making chocolates.  She was an avid Utah Jazz fan and enjoyed watching them along with other sporting events.  However, her most favorite times were spent with her children and grandchildren, being involved in their activities.
Deawn is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Milton) Hammond of Groveland;  seven grandchildren, Kym (Tron) Crumley, Korie Allen, Kevin (Marci) Hammond, Cheri (Rick) Mullinix, Darin (Emily) Hammond, Lana (Dan) Weber, Brian (Kaylynn) Hammond; brothers, Victor Martin (Judy) Jackman of Blackfoot and Rick Jackman of Pocatello; two sisters, Geraldine “Jerry” Morgan of Blackfoot and Ordis (Lee) Herbst of Blackfoot;  24 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn W. Herbst; son, Marlow Glenn Herbst; her parents; two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Jackman and one sister, Lydia Perkes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at the Groveland LDS Chapel.  The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home and again for one hour prior to services at the church.  Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
