Mother Nature spoils ‘Buck Bowl’

BLACKFOOT — Mother Nature really did not want to cooperate Friday night.
In the hour leading up to the annual 'Buck Bowl' the clouds around Blackfoot High School began to darken and the threat of rain became evident as the lightening was getting closer and closer tot he field.
After the opening kick-off was delayed an hour by weather the Broncos and Bobcats got onto the field, but they didn't even get to halftime before they were pulled off the field again, this time for good.

Lady Russets use big fifth set run to take down Lady Panthers in five

THOMAS — There may no thing better in sports than a good rivalry game.
Living in Bingham Country sports fans are lucky enough to have their fair share of them to enjoy.
Thursday night at Snake River High School the Lady Panthers and Shelley Lady Russet volleyball teams took the floor and played a five set match that featured a little of everything.
After trading each of the first four sets, the Russets used an 11-0 fifth set run to stake the match in five sets 25-17, 29-31, 17-25, 26-16, 15-5.

Bronco volleyball finally comes home, but falls to Century

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos volleyball team has quite the start to the 2014 season.
After the high school gym was flooded during August's rain storm that flooded most of the city the ladies had to play all of their games during the opening month of the season on the road.
That all changed Wednesday night when the Broncos finally got to play their home opener against four-time defending state champion Century.
The Broncos were not intimidated by the state's top team in 4A and played tough the entire match but fell in the end 12-25, 17-25, 17-25 in front of the home fans.

Lady Russets take round two 3-0 over Lady Panthers

SHELLEY — The Shelley Lady Russets have been a scoring machine all season long, while the Snake River Lady Panthers have been playing improved soccer over the last few weeks.
Tuesday the two teams met in Shelley for the final time during the regular season in Shelley and this time the Lady Panthers gave the Lady Russets more of a game than they appeared to be expecting.
Shelley got a pair of first half goals and the Panthers had one called back due to offsides call, but it was the second half aggressiveness by the Panthers that shined in the 3-0 loss to Shelley.

Blackfoot achieves goals in 5-0 victory over Pocatello

BLACKFOOT — Prior to Monday's 4A District 5/6 match-up with Pocatello Blackfoot head coach Liam Pope laid out two goals for his team, score and early goal and keep a clean sheet.
By the time the 80 minutes were up the Broncos had achieved both of their goals.
Cesar Oseguera scored the in fourth minute and the goalie duo of Jorge Lopez and Daniel Pelayo kept the Indians out of the net as Blackfoot kept their district record perfect with a 5-0 victory over the Indians at Blackfoot High School.

After a slow start, Panthers cruise past Beavers in straight sets

THOMAS — It was not the start Snake River volleyball coach Shelli VanOrden was hoping for as her team dug themselves a very early 12-2 hole to visiting American Falls.
But the defending stat champions did not let the early struggles get to them, instead they regrouped and refocused and ended up taking down the visiting Beavers in straight sets25-19, 25-10, 28-18 at Snake River High School on Saturday afternoon.

Bees ambush Russets, 32-7

IONA – It isn’t often that you see a Shelley Russet football team look bad in a game.
But from the word go Friday night at Thunder Stadium against Bonneville the Russets looked bad, really bad.
Bonneville quarterback Bradley Smith threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns as the Bees cruised to a 32-7 win over the Russets.

Diggers down Panthers in four sets

THOMAS — Michone Bingham had 15 kills and Chaise Dodson added 12 as Sugar-Salem defeated Snake River 3-1 in volleyball on Thursday.
The Diggers opened with a 25-15 win in game one, breaking from a 7-7 tie with six straight points and sweeping to the victory.
In game two the Panthers broke from a 15-15 tie with a 5-1 run with Sarah Goodwin at the service line. Snake River won 25-22 as Sarah Reece finished the game with a service ace.
Both teams played well in game three, but the Diggers finished with a 6-1 spurt to claim a 25-20 win. Abby Allen's kill finished that spurt.
