Panthers nipped 6-5 in first loss of season

THOMAS — The Snake River baseball team took to the home diamond looking for a season sweep of 6th district South Fremont on Wednesday afternoon but the visiting Cougars had other ideas as they rebounded from an earlier season loss to the Panthers with a 6-5 victory.
"Really today, our pitching kind of labored. We walked too many and we hit five batters and early on, I think that every runner we let on scored and then we left nine runner in scoring position," Snake River skipper Rich Dunn said. "We just let too many opportunities early slip away and it got us late."

Lady Panthers roll past Lady Cougars

RIVERSIDE — The Snake River Lady Panthers hosted the South Fremont Lady Cougars on Wednesday afternoon in a game that was originally scheduled to be played in St. Anthony. Due to poor field conditions the game was moved to Snake River's home field and the Lady Panthers took full advantage of both the home field and the gorgeous weather conditions in a 9-3 non-conference victory.
"It was just a great day," Snake River head coach Kay Martin said. "We have a solid core of girls and when we are rolling, playing relaxed, it just makes all the difference."

Russets win rain shortened game with Cougars 7-4

FIRTH — The Firth Cougars welcomed next door neighbor Shelley to town on Tuesday afternoon for a game of hardball that eventually was won by the Russets 7-4 in a game that was called after five innings of play due to the muddy conditions.
"It went down hill fast and it got pretty sloppy out here and when the ball gets wet like this, it's hard for any pitcher to get a good grip and that's what happens when it just keeps raining," Shelley head coach Trent Armstrong said. "I give the kids credit though. They were able to stick it out and just keep trying."

Firth drops season opener in extra innings

FIRTH — It was a good old fashioned cat fight at Firth High School on Thursday afternoon as the Lady Cougars of Firth welcomed the Lady Cougars of South Fremont to town for the season opener.
At the end of the day it took a bonus inning to decide the outcome and unfortunately for the home town team, it was South Fremont who got the best of the match up as they scored 8 runs in the eighth inning to take the 13-8 victory.

Capson heading to Treasure Valley

Tobey powers Blackfoot to 3-0 win over Skyline

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos got a pair of solo home runs by Morningrose Tobey as they kept their season record unblemished in a 3-0 win over the visiting 5A Skyline Lady Grizzlies on Tuesday afternoon. In what was listed as a double header on the schedule, the teams wound up playing just one game and in a classic pitchers duel, it was Tobey and the rest of the Lady Broncos who were the victors.
"It was a tough game," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "The pitching for both teams was just fantastic and we were able to get a couple of key hits. Morningrose definitely helped herself out and defensively we got the job done."

Big sixth inning propels Lady Panthers to win over Lady Russets

SHELLEY — On a near picture perfect day the Shelley Lady Russets welcome the Snake River Lady Panthers to town for an afternoon of softball. For the Lady Russets, it was their first outing of the year while the Lady Panthers entered the game with a 3-3 record thus far on the young season.
By days end, it was the Lady Panthers who emerged victorious as they pounded out 16 hits in a 14-7 win.
"It was a good day. It was beautiful weather and the girls came out and hit the ball," Snake River head coach Kay Martin said. "We never were really in control of the game though until that big inning."
Indeed the game was a tug of war over the first five innings of play with Snake River taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning and the Lady Russet regaining the lead at 4-2 with a three run home half of the fourth inning.

Panthers remain unbeaten in 13-9 win over South Fremont

THOMAS — The Snake River Panthers picked up their fourth win in four days on Saturday afternoon as they pounded out 18 hits for 13 runs in a 13-9 non-conference victory over the visiting Cougars of South Fremont.
"The thing that was probably the most impressive about today is our gutsiness," Snake River skipper Rich Dunn said. "We got up on them early with good pitching and good hitting and then credit South Fremont because they didn't go away. They have a big inning and cut the lead to three and our next at bat we said no, it isn't going to happen and answer those three which is always nice."
