Ronald LaVere John, 69

June 18, 2014

Ronald LaVere John, 69, of Blackfoot, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 13, 2014.
He was born June 24, 1944 in Shelley, Idaho to Thomas LaVere and Zola Sorensen John.  He was the second of four children.
On Feb. 1, 1980 he married Janeal Rae Bates.  They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Ron was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.

City and local soccer leagues make amicable agreement

Blackfoot city leaders and soccer officials representing youth and adult leagues came to an amicable agreement on Tuesday regarding the use of the soccer complex on Mitchell Lane.
The last agreement regarding the issue between the city and the soccer leagues was in 2003 under the leadership of Blackfoot Mayor Scott Reese. The agreement covered priority use of the Blackfoot Soccer Complex, use of the soccer building, maintenance of the fields and marking of the fields.
Mayor Paul Loomis reviewed each area of concern asking for input from the soccer officials present at the meeting.

Cynthia 'Cindy' Johnson Haddon, 64

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, Cindy Johnson Haddon passed away after a long defiant battle with cancer. She passed away in peace at her home in Pocatello with her family and lifelong companion Rocky Haddon and son Scott Haddon by her side.

Every year, responsible government agencies, public health professionals, and mosquito abatement experts do their best to educate the public about mosquitoes and the numerous ways that people can protect themselves from mosquito-borne diseases.

Quinton Gerard Blackburn, 92

Quinton Gerard Blackburn, 92, of Springfield, Idaho passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Quinton was born July 22, 1921 in Springfield, Idaho to Dewey Earl Blackburn and Valine Ellen Gutting.  He spent his lifetime in Springfield, other than the time he spent in the military. 

Mabel Irene Stroh, 98

Mabel Irene Stroh, 98, of Pingree, Idaho passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at Fairwinds Sandcreek Retirement Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Mabel was born Jan. 14, 1916 in Richfield, Idaho to Lester Carl Walker and Mabel Laura Skinner.  She attended elementary school in Aberdeen and graduated from Twin Falls High School.  She then attended Albion State Normal School and later graduated from Idaho State University.
On June 4, 1937 Mabel married Clarence Stroh in Boise, Idaho.  They had three children, Robert Walker, Richard Clarence, and Patricia Irene.

Delta Pettingill, 76

Delta Pettingill, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 12, 2014. She was under the care of One Source Hospice.
Delta was born on Oct. 11, 1937, in Burton, Idaho, to Glen and Murel Simmons. She grew up in the Lorenzo area and attended Rigby High School, graduating in 1955.

James “Jim” Gust Morris, 77

James “Jim” Gust Morris, 77, of Rexburg, died June 12, 2014, at Madison Memorial Hospital of natural causes. 
He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Sept. 11, 1936 to the union of Gust K. Morris and Constance Lagos Morris.
Jim was a fun-loving child known for his pranks and great love of the outdoors. Jim graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1955. It was there that he met his wife of 57 years, Lela Gardner Morris. Jim and Lela were married on Feb. 10, 1956. They were blessed with three beautiful children.

Elks, Legion honor flag with ceremonies

BLACKFOOT — A flag ceremony to honor the American Flag, its traditions and service took place on Flag Day, June 14, at the Blackfoot Elks Lodge.
"The flag is a history, a declaration and a promise of all that makes up our country," said one Lodge member. "What it is today and what it will be in future is up to us."
In July 1908, the national Elks organization voted that all lodges affiliated with the nationwide organization must recognize Flag Day with a formal ceremony.

Family members remember loved ones at Relay For Life

Valerie Pascoe had at least two reasons to participate in Bingham County's Relay For Life on Friday.
"My mother died at 45 and I have the gene," said Pascoe, the director of nursing at Access Home Health. "Now the clock is ticking."
"This is our third year participating," she continued. "We do this in honor of our hospice patients that we have lost."
As he walked into the stadium for his first year at Relay For Life, Drew Hansen said, "I had a grandpa die of cancer."
Hansen said he was participating in honor of that family member.
