Past chairperson of the Christmas Tree Fantasy Board Linda Seward, who now chairs the gift boutique, shows off some of the items that will be for sale at the Fantasy next week alongside current chairperson Susan Nalley. The Christmas Tree Fantasy begins Nov. 30 with a tea. The tree room will be open Dec. 1-4.

County shut down roads, offices due to blizzard Tuesday

BLACKFOOT — Bingham County was shut down Tuesday because of a blizzard that roared through the region. Schools and government offices closed as roads were impassable due to blowing and drifting snow.
Tuesday morning the Bingham County Sheriff's Office announced all roads in Bingham County were closed unless there was an emergency. The roads were to remain closed until they could be cleared by the County Road and Bridge Department. The County Courthouse also closed. All travelers were urged to stay home and off the roads.

BOISE — The Blackfoot Bronco drive for a second straight state title came to an end on Saturday afternoon, unfortunately for the Broncos and their fans, the mission came up just short with a 41-28 defeat at the hands of the Bishop Kelly Knights.

Fruitland runs past Snake River, 42-14

BOISE — In a classic game of David vs Goliath the Snake River Panthers squared off with the top ranked an undefeated Fruitland Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon.
At the end of a rather physical contest, the Grizzlies proved without a shadow of a doubt that they are the top team in the 3A ranks, holding back the Panthers with a 42-14 victory.

Hazel Hale Jensen, 90

Hazel Jensen, 90, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Tami Van Orden, surrounded by her family.
Hazel was born July 2, 1920, to Horace Leslie Hale and Agnes Pearl Pope in St. Anthony, Fremont, Idaho. She attended school in Cascade, Mont., graduating from Cascade High School on May 27, 1938. She continued her education at The California College of Mortuary Science, graduating on June 24, 1943. Hazel then worked at the Croxford Mortuary in Great Falls, Mont.

Pingree church prepares for bazaar

PINGREE — Ashley Lambson and Trina Nicholson were among a group of people drying noodles at St. John’s Catholic Church on Sunday.
“My grandmother (Rosemary Ray) has done this for years, so we help her out,” said Lambson.
Members of the parish make homemade noodles for about three weeks each November. The noodles are among the items sold at the church’s annual Christmas bazaar, scheduled on Dec. 4 this year.
“It gives the money to the church to be able to help the community out,” Nicholson explained.

Lady Tigers take a bite out of Lady Broncos

IDAHO FALLS — For the second time this week the Blackfoot Lady Broncos faced off with a 5A foe on the hardwood, this time at Idaho Falls were the Lady Tigers were equal to the task, sending Blackfoot packing with a 62-38 victory.
"There were times during that ball game that if we make our free throws and stop their offensive rebounds we are there, we are that close," Blackfoot head coach Mike Kirkham said. "I know it doesn't seem like that or look like it we just need to realize that we are close. I don't think that they have stopped playing hard though."
