Kim Vance Nakamura, 27, of Blackfoot, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011. in Blackfoot.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home and will be announced.

Lloyd Blair Brower, 86

August 29, 2011

Lloyd Blair Brower, 86, of Moreland, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at the Moreland LDS Church. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot, and again for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Moreland Cemetery where final military rites will be presented by American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23.

Wyc John Beasley, 33

Our beloved son, brother and father, Wyc John Beasley, departed our world to join his mother on August 25, 2011.
Wyc was born on Christmas Day, 1977 to William “Bill” and Sharon Sheepskin Beasley. Wyc grew up and spent the majority of his life in Fort Hall with a brief time away in Colorado during his elementary years.

William Verl Larsen, 88

William Verl Larsen, 88, of Ammon, Idaho, died August 24, 2011, at his home. He had been under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
He was born January 1, 1923, the fourth child of five to LaVera Fullmer Larsen and James Peter Larsen Jr. in Groveland, Idaho.  He was educated in Groveland and Blackfoot, and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Crops from 1943-1946.
Verl attended Idaho State University where he learned the trade of welding and in 1972 earned a degree in education.

Bobbie Harris Dawson Merrill, 69

Bobbie Harris Dawson Merrill, 69, of Longview, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 18, 2011, at her residence after a short battle with cancer. She was born on March 15, 1942, in Sash, Texas to Loney Clyde Harris and Fannie Bell Cook.
Bobbie grew up in Honey Grove and Longview, Texas, the only girl in a family of boys. She was a loving sister to those boys – competitive, but loving. She graduated from Longview High School in 1960. She married Robert Dawson in 1961, later divorced.

Deanna Marie Boyer Whitehead, 46

Deanna Marie Boyer Whitehead made her journey back to the creator Wednesday, August 24, 2011.
She was born October 24, 1964 to Dennis Boyer and Sherry Daniels in Pocatello, Idaho. She grew up in Fort Hall and Blackfoot Idaho. And for a short time at a young age in California. She attended school at Snake River High School and graduated in Pullman Washington.

Corn reigns supreme at Grove City Gardens

BLACKFOOT - There are 20 acres of fruits and vegetables planted at Grove City Gardens and everyone there knows "corn is king."
Car after car pulled into Grove City Gardens Saturday for the third annual Corn Daze. With the purchase of a dozen ears of corn customers were treated to two free ears of corn cooked Grove City Garden style.
The Mexican Crazy Corn is cooked husks on, then slathered with mayonnaise and sprinkled with cheese. For those wanting a little kick to their corn it is sprinkled with chili lime powder.

Blackfoot schools show growth in AYP

BLACKFOOT — Schools in the Blackfoot School District showed an average three percent growth over the previous year on the Idaho Standards Achievement Tests, according to figures presented Thursday at the Board of Trustees meeting.
Of all students in the district, 90.5 percent tested proficient in reading and 82.5 percent tested proficient in math.

Fires still burning

BLACKFOOT — Fires continued to burn throughout the region Friday, with the fire burning on the Idaho National Laboratory growing to 36,000 acres in size within 24 hours.
The T-17 wildland fire was reported at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The fire was burning on the desert site of the INL between Highway 33 and the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center (INTEC). The fire forced personnel at INTEC to take shelter indoors and non-essential personnel were evacuated from the Materials and Fuels Complex Thursday night. Normal work resumed at all facilities Friday morning.

Gem trail now open

ABERDEEN --Members of the Aberdeen Gem Trail Foundation gathered to officially open the Hazard Creek section on Friday.
The Aberdeen Gem Trail will eventually circle the community, providing those who enjoy walking, biking, hiking, etc. a safe venue.
"It's a great day to get this much of the trail done," said Tom Salaiz, president of the Aberdeen Gem Trail Foundation. 
"We knew it was needed from a safety standpoint," he continued, noting that, in late summer and early fall, a variety of farm machinery uses a nearby road.
