Fire doused at gravel pit at Gale Lim Construction

June 23, 2011

Crews responded to Gale Lim Construction, 301 North 700 West, for a fire Thursday morning. The fire began on a hot plant used to mix asphalt and was near a gas tank and propane tank in the gravel pit.

Firefighters quickly doused the fire and remained on scene. No one was injured.

BLACKFOOT – High winds and rain pummeled select areas of Blackfoot Wednesday night around 7 p.m.
The City of Blackfoot confirms that at least 19 trees are down in Jensen Grove. A large tree blocked Airport Road for a short time and Tana Lane was hit causing trees to fall and a metal flagpole to bend.

Walt Tschikof, 90

Walter Tschikof died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Meridian at the well-seasoned age of 90.

Eva Parsons Cunningham, 89

Eva Parsons Cunningham passed away quietly Friday, June 17, 2011, at home with her family near her side.
She was born April 12, 1922, in Sterling to Ralph and Velma Parsons. The second of three children, Eva lived there for the first two years of her life until her father moved them to Butte, Mont.,, to work in the copper mines. Six years later, with the Depression in full swing and the mines closing, the family moved back to Sterling.

Special delivery: EIRMC celebrates new women's center

IDAHO FALLS — Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center celebrated the grand opening of its Women and Infants Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Tuesday.
Called "Building Beautiful," the $20 million, 11-month construction project included a floor-to-ceiling renovation of the former Women's Center and the construction of a new 24,000 square-foot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Guests received guided tours of the facility to get a first-hand look at the patient rooms and technology and expertise available in the NICU.

Pilot walks away from golf course crash

BLACKFOOT — The 11th fairway of the Blackfoot Golf Course briefly gained a new hazard as a cropdusting plane crashed onto the fairway at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.
The cropdusting plane is owned by Vector Disease Control International. It had just taken off from the Blackfoot Airport, heading north with the wind.
Golfer Brent Hill was on the tee box at the 11th hole.
"We watched it all," he said. "[The pilot is] lucky; I can't believe the plane is rightside up.

Claire Suzanne ‘Sue’ Haralson, 78

Claire Suzanne “Sue” Haralson, 78, passed away at her home in Arco on Sunday, June 19, 2011.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Moore LDS Stake Center with President Steve Tibbitts conducting.
A viewing will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, 2555 N. Highway 93, Arco, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Arco.

Antonio C. Longoria, 60

Antonio C. Longoria, 60, of Blackfoot passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011.
Antonio was born March 12, 1951, in Levelland, Texas, to Antonio Longoria and Balbina Coronado. He was raised and lived most of his life in Blackfoot.
Antonio enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, using nunchucks, spending time with friends and family and riding his bicycle.

Barbara J. Manzanarez, 78

Barbara J. Manzanarez, 78, of Blackfoot, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
She was born May 31, 1933, in Midway, Utah, the daughter of James Thomas Wilson and Edith Shelton Wilson. Her mother died in her infancy and she was raised by a cousin Johannah in Heber, Utah. She received her education in Utah and moved a lot in her youth. She has lived in Idaho, Utah and California. She moved to Aberdeen in 1995 and then moved to Blackfoot in 2004.
