MONTPELIER â€“ It was a thriller at Bear Lake High School as the Snake River Panthers and the Bear Lake Bears tangled for the 3A fifth district championship. In a match that both teams deserved to win, Snake River emerged triumphant with a thrilling five game victory 25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-12.
â€śThis was a great match, the kind of game that a championship match should be,â€ť
Snake River head coach Shelli Van Orden said. â€śBear Lake is a great team and itâ€™s matches like this that will help us at state.â€ť
TWIN FALLS - The Snake River Lady Panthers and the Fruitland Lady Grizzlies entered the A3 state soccer tournament as the two of the highest scoring teams in the tournament. When the eighty minutes of play ended, the Lady Panthers owned a 1-0 victory earned by stellar defense and terrific goal keeping.
â€śWe knew that Fruitland was talented, fast and quick on the ball,â€ť said Coach Randy Turpin. â€śOur girls just wanted it more today and we played a terrific game defensively to earn the win.â€ť
BLACKFOOT â€“ Students at Stoddard Elementary are getting â€śfired upâ€ť about reading this year and local firefighters are helping them.
Sadie Beth Gardner Sydenham, 81, of Lehi, Utah, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at the Greenwood Manor in Lehi, surrounded by her loving family. Sadie was born Feb. 13, 1929, to Samuel LaBoyd and Mary Irene Carter Gardner in Thomas. She was raised in Blackfoot, attending schools in the Blackfoot School District and was a graduate of Blackfoot High School.
Sadie lived in many different places, including the San Francisco Bay area; Boise; Carson City, Nev.; Sparks, Nev.; Monroe, Utah; and the last three years in Lehi, Utah.
BLACKFOOT â€” Adjectives such as joyful, thankful, grateful and blessed can be used to describe breast cancer survivor Kim Buck. Come Dec. 23, Buck has been cancer-free for six years.
â€śI feel wonderful,â€ť Buck said. â€śIâ€™m a very blessed lady and I know it.â€ť
In May 2004, Buck was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.
â€śMy insurance agent had talked me into purchasing cancer insurance the previous September,â€ť Buck said. â€śI just went in for a check-up because I had purchased the insurance.â€ť
IDAHO FALLS â€” Needing a win to extend their season Blackfoot took to the Bonneville auxiliary gym, facing off with the Knights of Hillcrest.
Unfortunately for the Broncos and their fans in attendance, Hillcrest brought their A-game on Wednesday evening, sweeping the Broncos 15-25, 12-25 and 19-25.
IDAHO FALLS â€” A night after a heart breaking loss to Hillcrest the Shelley Russets returned to the court looking to stay alive in the High Country Conference tournament as they battled Madison on the Bonneville court.
After a sluggish start to begin the night, Shelley found themselves battling up hill for the remainder of the evening, leading to a sweep at the hands of the Cats 25-11, 25-21 and 25-17.
BLACKFOOT â€” Despite a down economy, one local business has been growing and is now looking to hire at least 50 new employees.
Premier Technology, Inc., a manufacturing, engineering and construction firm, has recently received several new contracts, requiring the company to seek additional employees.
Premier Technology has partnered with the Idaho Department of Labor to host job fairs throughout the state. The fair in Blackfoot is today from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Department of Labor, 155 N. Maple St.
IDAHO FALLS â€” Coming into the High Country Conference 4A district tournament the Blackfoot Broncos sat in the sixth seed. For most of the first game against Bonneville on Tuesday evening, Blackfoot looked every bit of a higher seed as they took it to the Bees for most of the game.
Unfortunately the Broncos could not hold onto a lead, falling 25-22.
"Bonneville only had 4 kills on us in that first game and we gave up some valuable points," Blackfoot head coach Lorin Lilya said. "We just have to get rid of the errors, that is where our main problem is."
Sadie Sydenham, 81, of Lehi, Utah, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at the Greenwood Manor in Lehi surrounded by her loving family.
