Edward Allen Harrison, 89

April 6, 2011

Edward Allen Harrison, 89, of Aberdeen passed away Monday, April 4, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital and Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Blackfoot. 
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Aberdeen LDS Church.
Family will meet with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
Arrangements are under the care of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.

Community Garden registration Saturday

BLACKFOOT — Those applying for a garden plot in the Blackfoot Community Garden will be required to attend a registration meeting Saturday.
The meeting will be at 10 a.m. at Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church at 168 S. University. Garden plots vary in size from 4 feet by 4 feet raised beds up to ground plots as large as 20 feet by 20 feet. A $30 garden membership fee is required.

Chamber board selects new director

BLACKFOOT — One thing that impresses those who meet Leah Rigby for the first time is her enthusiasm.
"We interviewed a number of very qualified people," said Derek Preece, president of the Greater Blackfoot Area Chamber of Commerce in announcing Rigby's selection as executive director. "She's the one who stood out with the enthusiasm and spark we're looking for."
Rigby replaces Rebecca Price as executive director of the Chamber of Commerce and the Idaho Potato Museum.

City Council passes use agreement for parks, fields

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot City Council unanimously passed a use agreement to be implemented between the city and sports leagues or other groups using city parks and fields. Approval came during the regular meeting Tuesday night.
Mayor Mike Virtue said the use agreement was drafted to ensure each party's responsibilities regarding the use and maintenance of the parks and fields.
"It's important we keep them in good condition and we use them appropriately," Virtue said.

Leon Esplin, 78

Leon M. Esplin, 78, of Basalt, passed away at home on April 3, 2011.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Firth Stake Center (823 North 675 East) in Basalt. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. before the services at the church. 
Interment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.

POCATELLO – Harry N. Lewis, 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 3, 2011, at his home surrounded by loving family members.
Funeral services for Harry will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, and for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday. The interment will follow the services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.

John Leonard Nation, 84

John Leonard Nation, 84, of Blackfoot, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls from pneumonia.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and family from 7-8 p.m. Sunday and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Blackfoot Senior Citizens, Meals on Wheels Program, 20 E. Pacific, Blackfoot.

Mary Leone Broadhead, 88

YAKIMA, Wash. — Mary Leone Broadhead, 88, formerly of Blackfoot, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Yakima, Wash.
She was born Mary Delaney, to John Vernon and Preal Losser Delaney, on April 28, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she grew up and graduated from West High School at the age of 16.

Pam Muirbrook, 60

ABERDEEN — Pam Muirbrook passed away March 31, 2011, at her home.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1950, to Elda Voth and Kenneth Schroeder. On Aug. 19, 1968, she was adopted by Roger Maisch. She grew up in the Aberdeen/American falls area and graduated from Aberdeen High School. She attended the University of Idaho and received a B.S. degree in Social Work (a career she never relinquished).
While at the university, she married Paul Muirbrook on Aug. 19, 1972. Pam and Paul raised two children, Tanya Muirbrook (Ray) of Portland, Ore., and Zack (Jamie) Muirbrook of Idaho Falls.

Dean Shipley, 70

Everett Dean Shipley, 70, of Blackfoot, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Renaissance Assisted Living Center in Blackfoot after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born on July 30, 1940, to Orson Floyd and Leone Ruth Call Shipley. He was the fourth of six children.
Dean spent his growing up years in Chesterfield, making many great memories. He grew up working hard and playing hard. He went to school in Chesterfield until his family moved to Springfield his senior year.
