Joseph Michael Jimenez, 64

January 3, 2012

Joseph Michael Jimenez, 64, of Pasco, Wash., passed away at home surrounded by his family, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011.
He was born to Michael Joseph Jimenez and Opal Loa Jimenez on Nov. 11, 1947, in Blackfoot and was the oldest of five children.
Joe met Jacque Benson in 1973 and the two were together from that time on. Joe and Jacque have two daughters: Hillary (Danny) Legard, Katie Jimenez,
and four grandchildren: Erik, Ethan, Kenadee and Brooklyn Legard of Pasco, Wash.

Kent J. Parrish

Kent J. Parrish died Dec. 27, 2011 at his home in Chubbuck.
When he wrote his own obituary a number of years ago he entitled it “107-year-old architect dies today” but the Lord called him home after only 79 years.
He was born Sept. 29, 1932 in Pocatello to Fred Ezra Parrish and Mable Edna Jensen Parrish.  He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Architecture in 1956. He attended the National University of Mexico in Mexico City for graduate studies.

Commissioners hear suggestions for Aberdeen airport

BLACKFOOT — Bingham County commissioners recommended a public hearing be scheduled in Aberdeen to determine if there is interest to extend the runway at the Aberdeen Municipal Airport.
Airports are required to pass an inspection certification each 10 years, said Nathan Cuvala from T-O Engineers in Boise. His firm was hired to inspect the Aberdeen Municipal Airport. Cuvala presented the idea of extending the runway to the county commissioners in mid-December.

Parkway Surgery Center staff touts quality equipment

BLACKFOOT — The doctors and other medical personnel at Parkway Surgery Center are proud of their state-of-the-art equipment.
Included among the items intended to provide the best medical care are a new carpal tunnel device, a new high definition colonoscopy machine and two new anesthesia machines.
"The goal of this new equipment is to have the best care we can for our patients," said Wendy Nugent, the clinical administrator at the facility.

shelley man dies in Idaho Falls crash

IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash which killed a 56-year-old Shelley man on Friday.
According to the IFPD, Matthew R. Marriott died on the 400 block of West Sunnyside Avenue about 8:39 a.m. when he crossed over the center line and crashed into two westbound vehicles. He died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Police released Marriott's identity on Saturday morning.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.

Local firm offers free rides tonight

BLACKFOOT — Tonight, Bowers Collision in Blackfoot is offering free rides home for potentially impaired drivers and his/her vehicle this New Year's Eve.
Call 785-9676 for this service.
The pick-up service begins anytime today and will end at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
"We have limited seating," said Doug Bowers, owner of Bowers Collision. "Our plan is to take you and your car home.
"We want to be helpful," he said.
Call the business at 785-9676. It will ring through to cell phones.
The service is limited to the Blackfoot area, "so we can take more calls," said Bowers.

Last day for early bird registration for Tommy Vaughn's Marathon

BLACKFOOT — Whether you are looking for a reason to get fit in the new year or if you are an avid runner looking to set a new personal record, today is the final day to register with early bird pricing for the Tommy Vaughn's Marathon and More set for May 19. Regular pricing will be in effect until April 15.
The event will feature several race lengths including a full and half marathon, 10K, 5K and a one-mile run for kids. Proceeds from the event benefit the Community Dinner Table.

Kids have fun learning at 4-H day camps

BLACKFOOT — Students took advantage of 4-H day camps Wednesday at the University of Idaho Extension office in Blackfoot.
In the morning, one group sewed pajama pants while another group practiced microwave cooking for breakfast/lunch/dinner and holiday treat items.
In the afternoon, students prepared eats that were cool to make. Another group designed table settings with menus to match.
