Benefit dinner set for Blackfoot man

BLACKFOOT — A benefit dinner for Jerry Windous is scheduled at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1110 Parkway Dr., in Blackfoot, near Walmart.
Windous is suffering from cancer. He and his wife, Brenda, have no medical health insurance.
A lasagna dinner with salad, bread and dessert is being served. The suggested donation is $5 per person or $20 per family.
A silent auction is also scheduled.
"Bring an item and/or bid on one; all donations are welcome," said chair Bobette Brown. Kathy Tauscher is the other chair.

Blackfoot tennis players claim championships

MORNING NEWS
IDAHO FALLS – Blackfoot tennis players were few in number at the recent Jim Sailer Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament, but the young squad still made their presence known.
Dylan Fuller was the champion in Boys' 12 Singles while Baylee Gorder earned top honors in Girls' 12/14 Singles.
Daylan Bird won the consolation championship in Boys' 14 Singles while Jacob Harris won the consolation championship for the Boys' 16 Singles.

Score of 296 good for top spot in Blackfoot Golf Course closing social

BLACKFOOT — The team of Hal Nelson, Delynn Morgan, Skyler Young, Nancy Cushman and Mike Johnson won top honors at the Closing Social tournament at Blackfoot Golf Course on Saturday.
They shot a gross 296 to win the top prize by two strokes. Runnersup were Barrett Beck, Doneal Johns, James Carter, Cody Seamons and Brandon McNeil.

Blackfoot Boosters schedule 'Mash the Russets' tailgate party

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot High's football boosters will conduct a "Mash the Russets"-themed free tailgate party before the game with Shelley on Thursday.
Activities get underway at 5:30 p.m. in the stadium parking lot. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
This is the final regularly scheduled home game of the season and will feature Senior Night. In addition, members of the team and the coaching staff will wear pink shoelaces, wristbands and mouthguards in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Cooler, wetter weather on its way

BLACKFOOT — September weather was warmer and drier in 2011 than the 20-year average, but October looks to get started much cooler and wetter.
A strong, slow-moving storm is expected to move through Southeast Idaho this week, bringing cooler temperatures, rain and even snow to higher elevations.
Widespread precipitation is expected today and tomorrow with a chance of showers through Friday. Mountain snowfall of 6-10 inches above 8,000 feet is forecast through Friday.

David Archuleta to perform Christmas show at BPAC

BLACKFOOT — Local David Archuleta fans are getting an early Christmas gift this year—the popular singer will be making a stop at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center Dec. 9 as part of his much-anticipated "My Kind of Christmas Tour."
Tickets go on sale Saturday and are $27.50 plus a $3.50 service fee. Tickets will be on sale at the BPAC from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Tickets can also be purchased beginning at 10 a.m. by calling 317-5508 or online at www.blackfootpac.com. All seats are reserved.

P&Z commissioners reject further division of subdivision

BLACKFOOT — Last Wednesday, Planning and Zoning (P&Z) commissioners voted not to recommend approval of the subdivision request made by Ramon Guerra at 35 S. 250 E., Blackfoot. The recommendations of the P&Z commissioners are heard by the Bingham County commissioners.
Guerra had requested a re-plat to Four Seasons Ranch Subdivision on Lots 8 and 9 to create three-lots in a residential/agriculture zone four miles east of Blackfoot.

Ralph Roy Reeves, 83

Ralph Roy Reeves, 83; of Pingree passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 in Pocatello at the Portneuf Medical Center.
Ralph was born on October 26, 1927 in Adair County, Iowa the son of Carl Delmar and Winnifred Alberta Ford Reeves.
He served in the Army Air force Reserves and served in WWII.
He married Suzanne Howe on October 26, 1958 in Greenfield, Iowa. She passed away January 1, 1976.
He married Nancy Reed on June 15, 1990 in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Heber Glen Bevan, 83

Heber  Glen  Bevan, 83, Riverside-resident, passed away, Saturday morning, October 1, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Riverside LDS 2nd Ward in Riverside with Bishop Brett Williams conducting. The Family will receive friends at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 So. Shilling, Blackfoot, Thursday October 6 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Riverside L.D.S. Chapel. Burial will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.

Lynn Broadbent

Orson Lynn Broadbent was born October 21, 1948 in Salmon, Idaho to Donna Leavitt Broadbent and Orson Swainston Broadbent.
After serving a mission in Austin, Texas, Lynn returned and found his eternal companion Jackie Lynn Jacobson and they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on February 11, 1972. They were blessed with two daughters Wendi Lynn Lane (Jim Lane, Jr, Virginia) and Ruthan Killian (Darren Killian, Firth).
