Scouts donate bikes to Toys for Tots

December 15, 2011

BLACKFOOT — Boy Scout
Troop 201 from Riverside
delivered 11 bikes to Toys for
Tots. This project is sponsored
by the Marine Corps Reserve.
“We wanted to give back
to the less fortunate,” said
scout Caden White. “We are
thankful for what we have; we
just wanted to make someone
else’s Christmas.”
The scouts also donated
two bikes to the Bingham
Crisis Center.
People living in the
Riverside contributed the
bikes, said scoutmaster Steve
Fullmer. The scouts put them
together.
Seven scouts and five leaders
worked for four weeks
preparing the bikes.

Commissioners ratify council election results

BLACKFOOT — The canvass
of the Blackfoot city council
runoff election was approved
by the Bingham County commissioners
Wednesday.
Butch Hulse received 450
votes which was 57.8 percent
of the vote. Clair Broadhead
received 328 votes which was
42.2 percent. The votes cast
for both candidates totaled
778.
The number of absentee
ballots issued totaled 207. The
number of returned absentee
ballots totaled 177. This was
almost 23 percent of the total
votes cast.

Amber alert issued for missing Rexburg girls

REXBURG — An Amber Alert has been issued from Rexburg. According to the report, ex-wife Heather Fisher has kidnapped two girls who were in the custody of Justin John. She came to the girls' school and removed them from the school at 9 a.m., police say. They also said the mother, who has no rights to the children, took them after not seeing the girls for two years. The custodial parents called in at 2 p.m.

Rhoda Virginia Keele, 75

December 14, 2011

Rhoda Virginia Keele, 75, of Pingree, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at her home following a struggle with cancer.
She was born May 24, 1936 along with twin brother, Robert, in Pocatello to Ray Parkinson and Lexie Sundstrom.
She grew up in Tyhee and Riverside and graduated from Blackfoot High School.
Rhoda married Robert Roddam and they were later divorced. Forty years ago on July 17, 1971, she married Ronald Blain Keele. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  They lived in Blackfoot for a short time before moving to Pingree.

Milton Junior ‘Jay’ Cotterell, 85

Milton Junior “Jay” Cotterell, 85, of Provo, Utah, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at the Courtyard at the Jamestown Enhanced Care and Assisted Living Facility in Provo.
Jay (as he was called by his friends) was born Oct. 16, 1926 in Arimo, Idaho. and moved to Moreland at the early age of 3. He is the son of Milton Hope Cotterell and Gertrude Eva England McKnight. Before the age of 4, Harrison McKnight became his father.

Tommy Vaughn's Grill cuts Chamber ribbon

BLACKFOOT — Although Tommy Vaughn's Grill has been a member of the Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce from Day One in October, general manager Tyler Rupe formalized that membership with a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday.
"We respect everybody in the Chamber," Rupe said, "all the great business leaders in our community. We see the networking between everybody, that they all work so well together and we want to be a part of that."

Mill Creek Metals to run transfer station

BLACKFOOT — Mill Creek Metals now has a signed five-year contract with Bingham County for operating the county's transfer station. Bingham County commissioners and Mill Creek Metals representatives signed the contract Monday.
Mill Creek Metals has agreed to run the transfer station for five years at a cost of $6.25 per ton.
Part of the contract states Mill Creek Metals can take plastic, cardboard and metals out of the waste stream and recycle them.

Police investigate pair of business burglaries

December 13, 2011

BLACKFOOT — Two Blackfoot businesses on South Broadway were burglarized Friday night or Saturday morning.
Royal Cleaners, 733 S. Broadway, reported that someone forced entry into the business and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.
Tanglez Hair & Nail Salon also reported that items were taken from the business at its new location at 207 S. Broadway. There was no forced entry.
