Lady Panthers comeback attempt falls short in loss

THOMAS — A flu bug has been working its way through the Snake River Lady Panthers over the last week.
Entering Tuesday's home game with Sugar-Salem six of the eight players on the varsity roster had flu symptoms along with head coach Rich Dunn.
And while Dunn was never use being sick as an excuse, staying competitive with a Lady Diggers team that handed the Panthers a 31-point loss two weeks ago in Sugar City.
After the opening quarter Tuesday night it looked as if the game would be a repeat performance as the one earlier in the month.

Fourth quarter run gives Russets win over Panthers

THOMAS — Over the last few years the Snake River and Shelley boys basketball teams have been involved in some epic games.
From state championship games to their normal regular season meetings Bob Coombs Panthers san Dave Hadley’s Russets are no strangers to each other.
So far in the early part of the season both the Panthers and Russets have had their share of struggles.
The Panthers came into Saturday night’s home game winless on the season, with the Russets were coming of a loss to Rigby when they let a lead slip away.

Rouind one goes to Pocatello in battle of the Parkers 68-47

BLACKFOOT — It took an hour longer to finally get started Friday night as a mix-up with the officials caused the Blackfoot High School administration to scramble for a pair of officials.
The officials did show up and after an hour delay the junior varsity game finally got going.
It was close to 9 p.m. before the variety teams hit the floor as Blackfoot head coach Dallin Parker finally got the chance to coach against his sister Carly who is a senior at Pocatello High School.

Broncos keep it close for three quarters, but fourth quarter run gives Bonneville 82-56 victory

BLACKFOOT — One look at the box score and the casual fan cpu;d easily assume that the Blackfoot Broncos 82-56 loss to Bonneville was a blowout.
And while the score alone indicates just that, if you happened to be one of the fans in attendance at Blackfoot High School on Thursday night you wold have seen the Broncos play their best game of the young season.
After a freak accident in pre game warmups the Broncos lost starting point guard Chase Causey for the game meaning that sophomore Dunkin Hale would run the point against a very tough Bonneville defense.

Lady Cougars earn season sweep with 44-35 win over Shelley

FIRTH — In the seasons first meeting eight days earlier the Shelley Lady Russets had their way with their county rivals to the south taking down Firth by 21.
The two teams met for the final time in 2014 on Wednesday night in Firth with the Lady Cougars looking to earn a season split with the Russets.
A night after shooting 20 percent from the free throw line in a loss to Sugar-Salem, Firth made sure that would not be their downfall two nights in a row.

Broncos still a work in progress, fall to Madison

BLACKFOOT — The first two weeks of the boys basketball season have featured its fair share of ups and downs for the Blackfoot Broncos.
But more often than not in the early weeks the Broncos have taken some lumps as the entered Tuesday night's home game with Madison at 0-2 and staring a gauntlet of a schedule going forward.
The Bobcats pounded the low post on the smaller Broncos to start the game and then Bill Hawkins ball control offense moved the ball around the perimeter for the open three pointer as Madison cruised to a 73-30 win over the Broncos at Blackfoot High School Tuesday.

Snake River falls to hot shooting Bear Lake 63-44 in home opener

THOMAS – A year ago the Snake River and Bear Lake boys basketball teams were involved in a trio of epic games as 3A District 5 rivals.
Saturday night in Thomas the Panthers welcomed the Bears to town for the home opener, but this time the Bears are members of the 2A classification after dropping down in the summer.
But drop down in classification did not quell the rivalry between the two schools.
After 16 minutes of up and down basketball the Panthers went into the locker room trailing 27-26.

Hot shooting Knights spoil Broncos home opener

BLACKFOOT — It wasn't exactly the start the Blackfoot Broncos boys basketball team had for the 2014-15 season home opener, but it was definitely a learning experience.
The Broncos welcomed 5A Hillcrest to town on Friday night and from the opening tip-off the Knights made it clear they were going to shoot the ball, a lot.
Hillcrest put up 24 first quarter points on the way to a 66-34 victory.
The Knights made three first quarter three pointers and junior McKay Mangeris scored 10 of his game-high 17 points in the opening quarter to give the Knights the big lead after one quarter.

Big second quarter propels Lady Russets to 70-42 win over Skyline

SHELLEY — There is a saying in sports that defense wins championships.
Over the early part of the young season the Shelley Lady Russets have played some pretty good defense, it has the offense that needed to come along.
After a big win and quite possibly the most complete effort of the season on Tuesday night against Firth, Shelley welcomed 5A Skyline to town.
After a slow start to the game the Russets blew the game open in the second quarter as a 22-2 run turned a two point deficit to a 16 point lead as Shelley blew out the Grizzlies 70-42 at Shelley High School.

December 3rd

Lady Panthers fire on all cylinders in 30-point win over South Fremont

THOMAS — The injury bug has hit the Snake River Lady panthers hard during the seasons opening weeks.
During pre game warmups on Wednesday night the Panthers had three players down with injury forcing head head coach Rich Dunn to pull up a few players from the junior varsity team to help give breaks to the starters.
Tuesday night in Sugar City the Panthers played well into the third quarter, but fatigue set in during the final quarter and the Diggers handed Snake River a 31-point defeat.
Snake River got a much better performance Wednesday night at home against South Fremont.
