Knights out gun Broncos

BLACKFOOT — In the end it was a loss, but for Bronco fans in attendance at Wednesday evenings game against the Knights of Hillcrest, progress could be seen throughout the 86-73 defeat.
"Our offense is a lot better when we are a pass first team and you saw that out there tonight so at least we are making those strides because we had some really good possessions out there," Blackfoot head coach Jonathan Packer said. "We played with a lot of energy which I was happy to see."

Lady Russets complete season sweep of Lady Broncos

SHELLEY — Behind a double-double by senior post Sadee Wattenbarger, the Shelley Lady Russets completed a season sweep of their county neighbors on Tuesday evening by beating Blackfoot 57-41.
The game got off to a late start, due to some scheduling confusion, but the Lady Russets did anything but start late, sprinting from the opening tip with a full court pressure package that led to a 19-6 lead after the first period of play.

Firth cruises past Teton

FIRTH - In a game that at times seemed more like a rugby scrum than a basketball contest, the Firth Cougars scratched and clawed their way to a 70-48 non conference victory over the visiting Teton Redskins Friday night.
"Teton is a very physical team and they showed their physicality tonight, especially inside," said Coach Scott Adams. "I am sure that a lot of our players will have bumps and bruises tomorrow."

Bear Lake stuns Snake River

THOMAS — It was an odd night at Snake River High School on Thursday evening as the highly anticipated match up between the Bear Lake Bears and the Snake River Panthers unfolded upon the hardwood.
After a late start, due to a freshman overtime tussle, the Bears raced out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back, stealing the road win over the Panthers with a 49-40 victory.

Blackfoot grapplers stack up Hillcrest

AMMON — The Blackfoot wrestling team continued their significant roll through the 2010-11 season, taking down High Country Conference rival Hillcrest, in the dungeon, 60-7 on Wednesday evening.
"I thought that we had good spunk, good fire and we knew that we would be in for a hard fought battle and that is what Hillcrest gave us," Blackfoot head coach Brian Barlow said. "We don't like any of the young men too face defeat and thankfully we are winning more than we are losing."

Firth completes season sweep of Aberdeen

ABERDEEN — The Firth Cougar basketball squad entered the Aberdeen Tiger den on Tuesday night, looking for a season sweep of their Bingham County brethren. At the end of a rapidly played contest, that is exactly what they got, as they won the cat fight with a decisive 58-37 victory.

Panthers hold off game Tigers squad

January 15, 2011

THOMAS — The Snake River student body chanted "He's a sophomore," on more than one occasion on Friday evening. They had good reason for the chant as a pair of sophomores put on a shooting clinic for the Panthers with Jacoby Johnson and Cole Rushton leading the way with 18 and 19 points apiece in a 64-56 home victory over Aberdeen.
"I have a lot of younger kids that are playing well and I felt that Cole had a great game tonight," Snake River head coach Bob Coombs said. "He's come a long ways and he just makes us that much better because that's another kid that you will have to guard."

Panthers out-duel Cougars

THOMAS — On a night in which the current crop of Snake River wrestlers paid tribute to the founder of Snake River wrestling, Keith Williams. Snake River capped the evening with a hard fought 43-24 duel win over Bingham County rival Firth on Wednesday night at Snake River High School.

Russets take round one with win over Broncos

BLACKFOOT — After back-to-back treys by Blackfoot's Beau Hoskins and Trae Pilster the Broncos and the Russets were locked at 48-48 with just over a minute remaining.
On the ensuing offensive possession, Shelley point guard McKay Cannon hit a streaking Chad Cather behind the Blackfoot press for a quick lay up, giving the Russets a lead that they never surrendered in a huge 55-48 victory at Blackfoot High School.

Lady Panthers hold off hard charging Lady Broncos

BLACKFOOT — The Snake River Lady Panthers built a double-digit first half lead and then held off a late charge by the Blackfoot Lady Broncos too complete the season sweep of the cross river rivals with a 47-43 victory on Saturday evening.
"I think that this win means a lot to the girls and certainly to the fans," Snake River head coach Steven Morton said. "For us, this was an important game but not nearly as important as our five remaining league games. It was a fun game that helps us be competitive in our league."
