Magistrate Judge Charles Roos ruled Thursday that the juvenile facing two charges of misdemeanor battery from incidents that occurred during the basketball season last year at Blackfoot High School cannot be found guilty because the state had not met it's burden of proof.
BLACKFOOT — The juvenile defendant facing charges relating to incidents that occurred during the basketball season last year at Blackfoot High School appeared in court Wednesday for an evidentiary hearing before Magistrate Judge Charles Roos.

BLACKFOOT — At least 75 teachers, parents and students rallied for an hour Monday in support of Idaho teachers and educators and in opposition to Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna's "Students Come First" plan.
Teachers stood with signs on the east and west corners of Meridian and Judicial from about 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants were greeted with plenty of horns honking from drivers who drove past.
FIRTH –Jason Clemens’ only teaching assignment so far has been teaching agricultural education in Firth. Clemens is also the advisor for the Firth Future Farmers of America (FFA).
Clemens grew up in Ontario, Ore., graduating from high school there. He attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a degree in agricultural education in May 2000. In the fall of that year, Clemens accepted the job of Ag teacher at Firth High School.

BLACKFOOT — Three individuals have been cited with misdemeanor possession or sale of a synthetic cannabinoid after police issued a search warrant at a local merchant.
The Blackfoot Police Department received information that Hecho en Mexico, located at 1010 W. Bridge St. Ste. K, and served a search warrant at that location. As a result of the search warrant, more than 200 containers of "spice" retailing for around $3,200 were recovered.

BLACKFOOT — A trial has been scheduled for Anthony Clarke, one of the five individuals charged with misdemeanor offenses from incidents that allegedly occurred during the basketball season last year at Blackfoot High School.
The pretrial conference for Clarke was rescheduled after neither Clarke nor his attorney Dean Brandstetter were present at the first scheduled pretrial. At that time Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Randy Smith said they were near reaching a plea agreement but had yet to meet in person with Clarke, who is attending Boise State University.

BLACKFOOT — The trials for two of the five former Blackfoot High School athletes charged with various misdemeanors stemming from incidents that occurred last year during the basketball season will not be moved, pending the outcome of a jury selection scheduled for today.
Jury voir dire will occur today for Nathan Walker's trial. Walker is charged with five counts of misdemeanor false imprisonment and one count of aiding and abetting.
"We already have 100 prospective jurors coming in," Roos said. "I think it's best, since we have already summoned those people in, we make the attempt."
BLACKFOOT — Members of Boy Scout Troop 202 in Blackfoot took part in a flag retirement ceremony Tuesday evening.
Michael Prudhomme headed this project to complete his Eagle Scout project.
"When flags are no longer in any condition to be displayed, a flag retirement ceremony is conducted," Prudhomme said.
Prudhomme explained the design of the flag.
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot City Council plans to discuss a new synthetic drug called “bath salts” at tonight’s meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
Councilman Chris Jensen said he plans to discuss a possible ban on the new drug, which is starting to be seen in Blackfoot.
The Idaho Legislature is seeking to ban “bath salts,” but Jensen said he would like to see a pre-emptive strike against the substance in Blackfoot. The House bill was introduced Feb. 8, but has been in the Judiciary, Rules and Administration Committee since. If passed, the ban would go into effect immediately.
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Community Center is asking for volunteers to help prepare and move into their second facility.
Community Center Executive Director Ashlee Howell said they recently secured a second facility at 257 S. Broadway, the former Danny’s Auto building. The second location is located less than one block away from the existing facility.
They plan to convert the space into a youth center with pool table, air hockey, ping pong and a big screen television. The space will also be used for various activities, including a Zumba class to begin this week.
