CDT shares with hungry, lonely

November 28, 2013

Nearly 300 people took advantage of Community Dinner Table's Thanksgiving meal on Thursday.
"We had a truly blessed day with 270 souls," said Lee Hammett, a member of the Community Dinner Table board of directors. "Each had the opportunity to describe four things they were thankful for.  Many asked us to read them aloud - so we did. It was both heartwarming and touching to read the many variations of thankfulness about family, friends, food and faith.

You know the holiday season has officially begun when Santa Claus rolls through Blackfoot on a shiny red fire engine courtesy of the Blackfoot Fire Department. The Blackfoot firemen will escort Santa from the fire station at 11 a.m. and onto local businesses around town where Santa will listen to children's Christmas wishes.
His first stop will be at the Family Dollar Store, then onto Walgreens, Riverside Plaza, Ridley's and Walmart.

Today we will dive into the boys all-county team naming the 11 best players in the county accruing to myself.

All-Bingham County Girls Soccer team

BLACKFOOT — Since taking over at the Morning News in May I have been thinking of ways that I could bring some things new to you the readers and some things that may be interesting to work on.
One of those ideas was to do some sort of all-area team. At my previous jobs we did one for each high school sport during the school year and naming a player if the year for each.

November 27, 2013

BLACKFOOT — With a one-point lead and 14.3 seconds left on the clock and the ball out on the sidelines the Blackfoot Lady Broncos were expecting a foul to come from one of the Snake River Panthers.
But unfortunately for Lady Panthers fans the foul never came and Blackfoot won a hard fought rivalry game 44-43 at Blackfoot High School Tuesday night.

Drivers say Blackfoot's gas prices are hurting the local economy

November 27, 2013

When it comes to regional gas prices, Steven Terrell of Blackfoot sees the full gamut. As the owner of an auto parts delivery company "Scenic Transportation," Terrell drives about 10,000 miles a month, costing him about $2,500 per month in gas. Terrell contends that Blackfoot's prices are consistently higher than nearly every town along his route and are even equal to the resort town of Jackson Hole, Wyo., notoriously known for high-priced "everything."

When it comes to leading the City of Blackfoot, mayoral candidates Paul Loomis and Dan Cravens are in agreement with each other on many issues - especially their passion for Blackfoot. However, the city budget is the one issue that riled both men at a mayoral forum Monday evening - moderated by Greg Austin of the Fraternal Order of Police - Snake River Lodge and Ben Hirschi - president of the Local Firefighters 445.

Snake River Library gains 3D scanner

November 25, 2013

THOMAS — About two weeks ago, the Snake River School/Community Library received a 3D printer. The printer uses plastic tubing to form a 3D project.
Students in the drafting class at Snake River High School have been busy designing projects to explore its capabilities.
The first project that SR drafting students designed was glass that measured about three-eighths inch tall. The hollow glass has a bottom and could actually hold a small amount of liquid.
"Designing a glass that was hollow was difficult," said Sherrilynn Bair, Snake River School/Community Library Director.

Russets repeat as state champions

November 24, 2013

POCATELLO — All season long the Shelley Russets have played solid defense, not turned the ball over and most importantly limited penalties.
In Saturday night's 3A state championship game in Holt Arena against Fruitland the Russets continued to play good defense, but the team was flagged for 14 penalties and turned the ball over three times on consecutive possessions spanning two quarters.
But in the end and just like they had done all season the defense kept Fruitland out of the end zone in the fourth quarter and Shelley won their second consecutive state championship with a 17-14 victory.

OGDEN, Utah -- When Idaho State fans considered Saturday’s game with Weber State, everything seemed to point to a Bengal victory. The Wildcats had lost 10 games in a row, many by sizeable margins.
ISU, meanwhile, had been competitive in most of its last five games, all losses.
