Blackfoot sweeps Bonneville, captures regular season title

IONA — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos wrapped up the regular season High Country Conference Championship with a double header sweep of Bonneville on Tuesday evening. Braving the cold, wind and snow, the Blackfoot bats were unfazed as they pounded out 29 hits during the double dip winning 14-2 in game one and then 13-2 in the nightcap.
"It seems like the more games that we play the stronger these girls are getting," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "I feel like we are peaking at just the right time."

HUNGRY PIGS: April 3, 9:38 a.m.: A woman said two pot-belly pigs keep eating her dogs food.

FRAUD II: April 3, 12:21 p.m.: A woman said she received a phone call from someone who requested her to send them a $1100 money order for them to release her prize. She said she did send them a money order that she got from Walmart.

FRAUD: April 3, 1:10 p.m.: A caller reported sending $1100 to Nicaragua for a lottery scam.

THEFT: April 3, 1:34 p.m.: A man reported four tree stands and some other items stolen.

Ron Lee Taylor, 66

Ron Lee Taylor, 66, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 27, 2013. 
Ron was born in Burley on April 20, 1947 to Dona & Lyle Taylor.  He was the oldest of five children.
Ron lived in Burley, Aberdeen, American Falls and Pocatello. He was married to Nancy Wickel and they had two children; Arden and Kristen.  They later divorced and he married Donna Benson and together they had one child; Logan. Ron and Donna later divorced. In 1986 he met and married the love of his life, Sheri Morris Thomas.

Kimberly Lopez Rodriguez, 43

Kimberly Dawn Lopez Rodriguez, 43, of Buhl formerly of Fort Hall passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Buhl following a courageous bout with cancer.
Kimberly was born in the early morning hours of May 18, 1969, the daughter of Dave K. Begay of Arizona and Zelberta Sequints Begay of Fort Hall.

Theodore ‘Ted’ A. Katseanes, 81

 Theodore “Ted” A. Katseanes, 81 of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at his home following a short illness.
He was born on March 30, 1932 in Blackfoot to Angel and Ada Lucinda Bingham Katseanes.  He attended school in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School.  Following graduation he attended the University of Idaho for one year.During his lifetime he has lived in Blackfoot, Idaho Falls and Hamer and in Winnemucca, Neva.
 On Sept. 10, 1951 he married Rodonna Cammack in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

Dalia Blanca Smith Matamoros, joined our Father in Heaven on Sunday, April 21, 2013.
Her lifelong journey began when she was born to Rafael and Francis Matamoros on
March 1, 1968 in Blackfoot. Dalia is fifth of 10 children. She has six brothers and three sisters.
Dalia was raised in Blackfoo,t completing her early education where she graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1986.

'Walk a Mile' a success

BLACKFOOT – More than 50 people participated in “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” on Saturday.
“We appreciate everyone who comes out to walk,” said Susan Nalley, chair of the board of the Bingham Crisis Center. “We always have amazing support from the community.”
Asked why he was walking, Bryce Moser said, “My wife is on the board and it’s for a good cause; it helps to bring awareness of the Crisis Center and about domestic abuse. It’s a lot of fun.”

Lady Broncos pummel Lady Indians 15-0 and 11-0

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos pounded out 29 hits and scored 26 runs in a double header whitewashing of the Preston Lady Indians on Saturday as they won 15-0 and 11-0 with both games being called in the fifth inning.

Stoddard students celebrate reading goal

BLACKFOOT — The laughter and the "ARRRGHHHs" could be heard throughout the building at Stoddard Elementary School as students celebrated exceeding their Idaho Reads! VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) reading challenge at a "pirate themed" reward party Friday.
Annie Tanner, Idaho Reads! VISTA volunteer for the school, said that the goal for the school-wide reading challenge was for the students to read 200 books (with a book title starting with each letter of the alphabet) by March 31. The students exceeded the goal by reading 207 books.

Osborn terrific in Bronco 3-1 win

BLACKFOOT — A day removed from their first conference loss of the season, the Blackfoot Broncos took to the home diamond looking to split the season series with the Century Diamondbacks. Behind a complete game effort from starting pitcher Russel Osborn, the Broncos accomplished that feat as they avenged Thursday's loss with a tidy 3-1 win on Friday.
"Russel wanted the ball and he came out and got the job done today," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "He stayed ahead of hitters and just battled all day long."
